Nunavut MP Lori Idlout joins the Liberals, NDP leader says

The NDP says Nunavut MP Lori Idlout has crossed the ground to hitch the Liberals, pushing Prime Minister Mark Carney’s authorities nearer to a majority.

Idlout’s transfer follows defections to the Liberals by three Conservatives in latest months.

Interim NDP chief Don Davies issued a press release late Tuesday saying the caucus is “very disenchanted” that Idlout selected to hitch the Liberals. 

He says the NDP’s place is that if an MP desires to vary events they need to resign their seat and run below a brand new banner to let voters determine. 

This newest ground crossing may assist give the Carney authorities a majority, because the Liberals now must win two of three April 13 byelections to have a slender majority. 

Idlout has represented Nunavut within the Home of Commons since 2021, and simply appeared at an Avi Lewis NDP management marketing campaign occasion in Ottawa final Thursday.
