Christine Fréchette to be sworn into office as Quebec’s 2nd female premier

Christine Fréchette is about to be sworn in as Quebec’s premier Wednesday with lower than six months to go earlier than the provincial election.

She defeated Bernard Drainville within the race to interchange François Legault, who created the Coalition Avenir Québec in 2011 and had been premier since 2018.

The 55-year-old Fréchette would be the province’s second feminine premier after the Parti Québécois’s Pauline Marois held the function from 2012 to 2014.
