Quebec premier feels bound by Labrador energy deal despite expiration date

The premier of Quebec says she feels her province continues to be sure by a framework power settlement signed with Newfoundland and Labrador.

The tentative settlement was set to run out Thursday, and Christine Fréchette says she is ready for Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Tony Wakeham to make the following transfer.

Wakeham acquired a report Thursday night from a panel he had tasked with reviewing the draft deal and he’s anticipated to touch upon it as we speak.

Fréchette says she is assured the proposed settlement for sharing power from the Churchill River in Labrador is useful for each provinces.

Wakeham had demanded a overview of the deal because it was unveiled in St. John’s in 2024 by Newfoundland and Labrador’s former Liberal authorities.


He ordered a panel to hold out the overview shortly after his Tories fashioned authorities final fall.
