More than 130 firefighters from across Canada and the United States will face off in simulated rescue contests in Angrignon Park this weekend.
The 5th Canadian Firefit championship will test the first responders’ skills and strength in a series of scenarios that replicate emergency situations.
The public event is organized by the Montreal Firefighters Association (APM) which represents over 2,400 firefighters across the island.
“Our firefighters demonstrate every day what it takes to protect Montrealers. For two days, Angrignon Park will serve as a showcase for this reality and the bond that unites us with the community we serve every day,” said Chris Ross, president of APM.
The event will also feature a demonstration of a live vehicle extrication and an antique fire truck exhibition.
Members of the public can also participate in running competitions — 1 km, 5 km, 10 km — and compete alongside the firefighters.
There will be several family-friendly free activities for the public, including, BBQ, inflatable games, face painting for children and giant games.
The two-day event goes on from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
