A 5-year-old child drowned in a swimming pool in Drummondville

A 5-year-old child drowned Friday night in a residential pool in Drummondville, in the Centre-du-Québec region, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reported.

Emergency services were called to Claude Street around 6:30 p.m., following the discovery of the unresponsive child in the pool.

“Resuscitation maneuvers were performed on the child, and, unfortunately, his death was confirmed at the hospital a little later in the evening,” said Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, spokesperson for the SQ.

An investigation is underway to shed light on the circumstances of this event. The inquest is being conducted in collaboration with the Coroner’s Office.
