CAQ recruits author and radio host Geneviève Petterson to run in Legault’s riding

Author and radio host Geneviève Pettersen is entering politics with the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) and will seek to succeed François Legault in the riding of L’Assomption.

The news reported by several media outlets on Wednesday evening was confirmed by La Presse Canadienne.

Pettersen posted on her Instagram account that her “phone was on fire” last night while she was at a restaurant.

“I haven’t changed my convictions to enter politics. I’m choosing to enter politics with my convictions,” she added.

Pettersen has written several books, including the best-selling novel “La Déesse des mouches à feu,” which has been adapted for the stage.

She was a columnist for Quebecor and a host on 98.5 FM. She left the radio station in November 2025.

The riding of L’Assomption has been represented by Legault since 2012. However, the poll aggregator Qc125 indicates that nothing is a sure thing for the CAQ in this riding. A close race is expected between the coalition and the Parti Québécois.
