Montreal is getting ready for a night of big laughs as comedian Sugar Sammy brings together some of his favourite local comedians for his second annual All-Star Gala.
Presented by MTL Comedy Club and co-produced with Straight Outta Montreal, the high-energy showcase features five up-and-coming talent.

“I’m really honoured and happy,” said comedian, Akeem Hoyte Charles. “It’s like a huge pinnacle in my career out of all the things I’ve done.”
Laughing comes easy when you’re around Hoyte Charles.
Raised just outside Montreal in Châteauguay, now living in Vancouver –- the stand-up comedian and actor started his career nine years ago.
“It was a dark stormy day,” he said, laughing. “I got into comedy trying to convince somebody I wouldn’t be good at it. And then I went up on stage at a local comedy show and I bombed, nobody listened.”
“And then I went to the local comedy club a week later,” he added. “I got signed up for it and I did really, really well.”
The other comedians also doing “really really well,” hand picked for the gala are: Gino Durante, Quinn Lague, Seby Jacob, and Ben Cardilli.
“After a couple of auditions, I was told my set was one of the ones to go on the big stage,” said Cardilli. “I was very excited about that.”
Before he jumped into comedy seven years ago — he was living out his music career, even part of La Voix’s season six.
“I kind of got really comfortable talking to the audience between songs,” he explained. “To the point where my band would look at me and be like, can you do that on your own time?”

The gala is more than just a night of comedy — it’s a chance for audiences to discover some of the city’s newest and funniest voices, while celebrating Montreal’s comedy scene.
Hosted by Sugar Sammy, all are welcome to purchase tickets for the event happening on Sunday, Sept. 6 at the Salle Pierre-Mercure at 7 p.m.
“I’m actually going to go shopping now for my outfit for Sunday,” said Cardilli. “Ive been wearing the same six shirts for the last two years.”
“It’s about time I get something new,” he added. “It’s a big opportunity.”
