Five suspects, including three teenagers two of whom are aged 16 and another 17, are facing criminal charges after allegedly robbing a jewelry store in Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough last week.
According Montreal police (SPVM), the suspects allegedly burst into the business located on Clark Street, near Viger Avenue around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 11.
“After smashing the front door and a display case with tools, the suspects reportedly smashed display cases to steal jewelry and fled in a vehicle,” SPVM said in a press release.
The jewelry store employee who was working at the time of the incident was not injured.
About half an hour later, police officers arrested the five suspects in the Saint-Laurent borough. Officers also recovered the stolen jewelry.
The two adult suspects Jason Clerveaux, 21, and Roldy Fenelon-Jean, 19, both appeared in court in Montreal. They face charges of breaking and entering, robbery, possession of burglary tools, wearing a disguise for criminal purposes, and mischief. Clerveaux was also charged with receiving stolen goods.
The three minor suspects who were not identified appeared in youth court and face similar charges, police said.
SPVM said it is continuing the investigation to determine their potential involvement in similar smash-and-grab thefts.
