An anti-artificial intelligence protest held near the All In conference in Montreal turned violent Wednesday evening, leading to one arrest.
The march was organized by the group Résistance Montréal to denounce the risks associated with AI. It took place on Jeanne-Mance Street, between René-Lévesque Boulevard and Sainte-Catherine Street.
The march was considered peaceful until some individuals attempted to push the fences toward Montreal police officers. An altercation then ensued between police and some protesters.
Officials say an object was thrown at a police officer, resulting in the arrest of a 19-year-old man for armed assault.
Numerous chants and slogans targeting police were also heard. Damage to a vehicle was reported to authorities.
No other arrests were made.
