Grocery giant Metro and the union representing striking employees at the Laval Fruit and Vegetable Distribution Centre have finally reached an agreement in principle for the renewal of the collective agreement.
The CSN, the national trade union federation to which the union is affiliated, and Metro management confirmed the information on Thursday.
The strike, which began on March 30, is affecting the Laval fruit and vegetable distribution centre, which supplies grocery stores, as well as the head office and transportation.
The CSN clarified that the strike would nevertheless continue until the workers had voted on the agreement in principle.
The meeting to present the offer and allow members to vote will take place on September 24. The union’s negotiating committee will recommend that its members vote in favour of the tentative agreement, the CSN indicated.
The dispute mainly concerned wages. The CSN reports that the tentative agreement provides for wage increases of 22 per cent over five and a half years, including a 6 per cent increase in the first year, paid retroactively to Sept. 17, 2025.
Metro management has stated that “in the meantime, our stores remain well-stocked to meet the needs of our customers.”
The union, which is attached to the Federation of Commerce, affiliated with the CSN, represents approximately 550 workers.
