Homeless man rescued from building on the brink of being demolished in Montreal

Montreal police (SPVM) say a homeless man was rescued Friday morning after taking refuge in a building that was on the brink of being demolished in Montreal’s Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough.

Officials were called to a construction site at the corner of Masson and Lafond streets around 10:30 a.m.

A 44-year-old man reportedly broke into the former Bingo Masson building and refused to leave, police said. Before the excavators began operating, workers apparently spotted the man on the ground floor of the building.

Authorities used a drone to locate the man’s exact position.

The Montreal Fire Department was also called to the scene to help secure the area and evacuate the man.

The operation ended around 1:30 p.m., when the man was escorted out of the damaged building.

No injuries were reported, but the man was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Authorities say no arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
