The Montérégie public health department reported on Friday that a person with measles visited public places in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield between Sept. 17 and 20.
During that time, the person visited various locations in the city, including an event held at the Hôtel MOCO. The person also visited Dooly’s bar in the town on the evening of Sept. 18–19, between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m.
“People who visited these locations between Sept. 17 and 20 are asked to monitor for symptoms until Oct. 11, such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, or a rash. Public health officials may contact certain individuals deemed at risk of having been exposed to the virus if follow-up is necessary,” the authorities stated in a press release.
An investigation is underway to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.
The public health department notes that measles is a highly contagious disease transmitted through the air. Infants, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk of developing complications if they contract the disease.
The organization emphasizes that anyone who develops symptoms consistent with measles should contact the Info-Santé hotline at 811.
