Commuters will be able to enjoy a temporary symphonic arrangement at Montreal’s Place-des-Arts station on Tuesday as the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) teams up with the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).
To honour the city’s 60th anniversary of the metro system and mark the launch of the OSM’s 2026–2027 season, officials are transforming the metro’s iconic chime into a symphonic arrangement for one day only.
“Symphonic music has a visceral ability to take your breath away and resonate, even with the most novice listeners,” explains Mélanie La Couture, president and CEO of the OSM. “By bringing the work of our musicians to life through a sound as iconic as the metro chime, we want to offer commuters at Place-des-Arts station a taste of the astonishing experience that awaits them at Maison symphonique this season.”
Officials say the musical surprise on the train platform will give locals a glimpse of what’s to come at the Maison symphonique throughout the season.
