A new large-scale indoor aquatic complex was inaugurated in Pierrefonds-Roxboro on Monday.
The modern facility represents a $66 million investment from the City of Montreal, along with a $7.5 million contribution from the Government of Quebec. The complex will offer a variety of aquatic activities for locals.
For Montrealers, the facility will be free of charge.
“Montreal must be a city where sport is accessible to all,” said Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada. “Families in the West Island have been waiting for this complex for a long time. We are finally offering them, too, a place to learn to swim, move and spend time together, all year round. That’s what investing in the quality of life in our neighbourhoods is all about.”
The complex includes a 25-metre swimming pool with eight lanes, one-metre and one- to three-metre springboards, a recreational pool with a wading pool, slide and water games, a hammam, a multipurpose room, as well as observation areas and welcoming service areas.
Locals will be able to enjoy an initial public swim once the complex officially opens to the public this fall. A full program of activities will be introduced gradually, beginning in winter 2027.
“Seeing this project become a reality is a huge source of pride,” said Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough mayor Dimitrios Jim Beis. “This sports infrastructure is a concrete action by our administration that demonstrates that we are investing today in a legacy that will benefit children, families and future generations.”
