More than one-quarter of Quebec’s eligible voters cast their ballots during advance polling, surpassing the turnout recorded during the same period ahead of the 2022 provincial election.
According to preliminary figures from Élections Québec, 25.59 per cent, or roughly 1.6 million of the province’s 6.4 million eligible voters, voted in advance.
The turnout surpassed the 24.5 per cent recorded during advance polling in 2022.
Advance polling took place at selected polling stations beginning Sunday, while voting was also available earlier at returning offices and on participating university and college campuses.
Among Quebec’s electoral districts, Louis-Hébert in the Capitale-Nationale recorded the highest advance turnout at 40.79 per cent.
Ungava, the province’s northernmost electoral district, recorded the lowest advance turnout at 10.54 per cent.
The province now heads toward election day on Oct. 5, when polling stations will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
