Man in critical condition after being struck by train car at Montreal’s Lionel-Groulx station

A man in his 40s died after being struck by an STM train car at the Lionel-Groulx station Saturday.

A 911 call was made around 11 a.m. reporting that a man had fallen onto the tracks.

“The train was unable to come to a stop before the person made it back to the platform,” said Renaud Martel-Théorêt, a spokesperson. “The person’s death has been confirmed.”

A spokesperson for Urgences-santé Pierre-Luc Lefrançois said two operations commanders, an advanced-care paramedic, and an ambulance were deployed in the operation. However, the first responders were unable to resuscitate the man.

Martel-Théorêt said the STM is investigating to understand what led to the man’s fall. “Everything suggests that this was, unfortunately, an accidental fall—not intentional,” he said.

Earlier, Montreal police said no criminal activity was suspected.

The STM is reminding passengers that it is important not to stand too close to the edge of the platforms and to remain behind the yellow lines on the ground.
