The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable informs the public that Highway 25, including the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, will be closed toward the South Shore during the long weekend, from Oct. 9 to 13.
From Oct. 9 to 11, users will be directed to the Champlain Bridge to avoid the area where the Beneva Montreal Marathon will be held. The detour will then take place over the Jacques Cartier Bridge starting Oct.11 at 11 p.m. Highway 25 toward Montreal, including the tunnel, will also be closed at night throughout the weekend.
Significant congestion is expected. The Ministry recommends that road users allow extra time to get to their destination. A police presence is planned on the network to facilitate traffic. Public transit will be the best way to get downtown this weekend.
These obstructions are necessary to allow the replacement of several fire protection panels located at the entrance to the tunnel, at the level of the vault. These interventions are required because of the damage caused by incidents and fender-benders that have occurred over the past year. These repairs are essential to allow the opening of a second lane to the South Shore by the end of the fall.
A closure will also be in place on Route 132 eastbound, between Roland-Therrien Boulevard and Highway 20 (Jean-Lesage), during the night of October 8 to 9, in order to carry out maintenance and winterization work.
