The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has confirmed two tornadoes touched down in southern Quebec late August.
In a statement Tuesday, the NTP said two tornadoes touched down on Aug. 27, near La Tuque in the Mauricie region.
The first one was an EF2 tornado at 4 p.m. at Lac Restigouche with maximum wind speeds of up to 190 km/h. The tornado’s path and damages were captured by drone footage from a private citizen, the NTP said. The track length of the storm was nearly 3 kilometres and it was 370 metres wide.
The second tornado was confirmed in Lac du Guide, about 50 kilometres north of the first one, at around 4:50 p.m. The NTP says it was an EF1 tornado producing winds of up to 145 km/h. An analysis of satellite images showed the powerful storm ripped through a forested area for nearly 2.5 kilometres long and 300 metres in length.
The confirmations brings the total to nine tornadoes in the province so far in 2026.
