Montreal’s Young Bar to offer free legal advice to Quebec residents

The Young Bar of Montreal (JBM) will hold its 47th Telephone Legal Clinic on Friday and Saturday, offering free legal information to Quebec residents seeking guidance on a wide range of legal issues.

More than 100 volunteer lawyers will be available by phone from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer questions about employment, housing, immigration, family law, estates, criminal justice and other matters. The service is free and anonymous.

The initiative comes as the rising cost of living and limited eligibility for legal aid leave some Quebec residents struggling to afford legal representation.

“Behind every legal question is a person seeking to understand their rights and the options available to them,” said Jeanne Gagné, president of the JBM.

Volunteer lawyers will be able to guide the public with a wide range of complex free of charge.

“Understanding one’s rights is the first step in asserting them, and this is precisely what the Young Bar of Montreal’s Telephone Legal Clinic has been putting into practice for 47 editions,” said Marcel-Olivier Nadeau, President of the Bar of Quebec.

Residents can access the clinic by calling 1-844-779-6232 on Friday or Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
