Westmount to auction properties over unpaid taxes

The City of Westmount is preparing to auction several properties over unpaid property taxes.

The Westmount city council adopted a resolution on Oct. 6 ordering the public auction of properties for which property taxes remain unpaid, in accordance with the Cities and Towns Act, the municipality said in a press release.

The sale is scheduled for Dec. 8, 2026, at noon. There are 18 properties listed as being potentially up for auction.

Properties can be withdrawn from the sale if all outstanding taxes, interest and fees are paid before the auction.

The price for properties sold at auction must be paid immediately, either in case, by cheque or by bank draft payable to the City of Westmount.

The properties will be sold subject to any active or passive servitudes, as well as declarations of co-ownership that may affect them.

The city says the next public notice is scheduled for Nov. 20. The list of properties was updated by the City on Oct. 16.

The auction will take place in the Westmount City Hall council chamber.
