Trick-or-treaters will be appearing at the doorsteps of some Quebecers a day early after at least a dozen cities advance the celebrations by a day this year.
Amos, Barraute, Chibougamau, Roquemaure, Sainte-Gertrude-Manneville and Senneterre are a few of the cities where costume-clad residents can be found out on the streets on Friday, Oct. 30 rather than on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Residents in Dolbeau-Mistassini in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region will see a majority of activities happening on Friday.
Cities say the decision to break from the centuries-long tradition of celebrating the spook fest on the last day of October was made to align the activities on a school day so students can show off their costumes.
“For many years now, the Municipality has been coordinating candy drives with school activities,” the City of Barraute said on Facebook, in response to a question about its decision.
Partygoers and trick-or-treaters in the province’s big municipalities like Montreal, Quebec City and Longueuil can still look forward to extended celebrations Saturday with those cities not making any changes.
