A 33-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge after a Montreal police officer was stabbed during a wellness check Wednesday in the Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension borough.
Police were called to a residence on 14th Avenue near Émile-Journault Avenue to conduct the check.
During the intervention, an officer was stabbed with a sharp object.
Court records identify the accused as Lorvens Joseph. He also faces charges of attempting to take the officer’s weapon and assaulting him.
The charge sheet alleges Joseph also breached an order prohibiting him from communicating with a woman or coming within 100 metres of her.
Quebec’s police watchdog, the BEI, is investigating the incident.
