Around 35,000 runners took to the streets of Montreal over the weekend to participate in Canadian 5K Championship, the Half Marathon Shop Santé, and the Marathon.
Additionally, Montrealers gathered in 21 cheering stations, including a special station that was set up at the 19.76 km mark to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Montreal Olympic Games.
“It warms our hearts to see 35,000 runners get up at dawn to come run with us. Every person who crosses the starting line validates our purpose, because at COURONS, we firmly believe that running together takes us far. The Marathon Beneva de Montréal is much more than just a race: it’s the community that builds around it, the connections that are made, the Montreal crowd cheering along the course, the hundreds of volunteers who make this extraordinary experience possible, and the seasoned team that shares its passion year after year. To everyone, see you next year,” said Alex Ratthé, general manager of COURONS in a statement.
Saturday, Matthew Beaudet and Julie-Anne Staehli won the Canadian 5K Championship.
Robin Lefebvre and Sabrina Lavigne the Quebec Mile Championship.
Alem Gebremariam of Ethiopia won the Women’s Elite Marathon with a time of 2:29:17, while Geoffrey Birgen of Kenya won the Men’s Elite Marathon with a time of 2:16:29.
