A conflict between two people who reportedly know each other turned violent Sunday evening in Montreal’s Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, leaving a 49-year-old man injured by a sharp object.
Montreal police (SPVM) were called around 7:30 p.m. following reports of an injured person near the intersection of Jean-Talon Street East and Pie-IX Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they found the victim conscious and suffering from injuries to his lower body.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson for the SPVM.
According to preliminary information, the incident began as a conflict between the victim and another person before escalating. Police said the two individuals are known to each other.
No arrests have been made yet.
A security perimeter was established around the scene as investigators and forensic identification technicians examined the area for evidence. A police canine unit was also deployed to search for possible clues.
Investigators have spoken with witnesses and are expected to review surveillance footage from nearby cameras as they work to establish exactly what happened.
The investigation remains ongoing.
