OTTAWA — Overseas Affairs Minister Anita Anand says she has acquired particulars from her officers in Turkey concerning the “appalling abuse” suffered by Canadians who have been on board a flotilla making an attempt to succeed in Gaza.
She says the 12 Canadians on the International Sumud Flotilla have now all arrived in Turkey and are receiving “pressing medical care.”
The Canadians have been amongst 420 people on 41 boats intercepted by Israel as they tried to deliver a symbolic quantity of support to Gaza amid Israel’s restrictions.
There was widespread outcry after Israeli Nationwide Safety Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir revealed video of him taunting the activists, whereas they have been kneeling, faces to the bottom, with their fingers certain.
Anand says she “unequivocally condemns the grave mistreatment” of the Canadians.
She says these accountable “for this egregious abuse have to be held accountable,” and that she’s going to present extra data as she receives it.
