The Sûreté du Québec says a 41-year-old father is wanted in connection with the death of his 16-year-old son in Shawinigan, Quebec, will face a charge of first-degree murder.
Quebec’s Crown prosecutor authorized the charge against Philippe Benoit on Tuesday as police continue searching for him.
An arrest warrant has been issued.
The SQ opened a homicide investigation after the teenager was found unconscious inside a residence in Shawinigan on Sunday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Benoit may be carrying a bladed weapon. While investigators say there is no indication of a broader threat to the public, they are urging residents to remain vigilant.
Anyone who sees Benoit is asked not to approach or confront him. Instead, they should call 911 immediately so police can respond safely.
Search efforts remain focused on the Lac-aux-Sables area after a vehicle belonging to the suspect’s mother was located there. However, investigators believe Benoit could be elsewhere in Quebec.
