Bakery in Saint-Laurent targeted by arson second night in a row

Montreal police (SPVM) say a bakery in Montreal’s Saint-Laurent borough was allegedly set on fire deliberately Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, following a first attempt 24 hours earlier.

Officers were called around 12:30 a.m. to a reported fire in a commercial building on Saint-Louis Street, near Gratton Street.

The blaze was still ongoing when police arrived at the scene.

Police say incendiary elements were found, pointing to the fire being purposely set.

No injuries were reported, but the damage to the business is said to be significant.

Officials say this is the second time this business has been set ablaze. The first attempt was reported to authorities on Monday around 11:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing and has been transferred to the SPVM’s arson squad.
