Donald Trump congratulates St-Pierre Plamondon on Quebec election victory — 22 days later

It may have taken 22 days, but U.S. President Donald Trump has acknowledged Quebec’s new government in a social media post.

Posting to Truth Social on Tuesday morning — more than three weeks after the Oct. 5 general election in Quebec — Trump wrote to congratulate Quebec’s new premier.

“Congratulations to Paul St-Pierre Plamondon on his WIN!” Trump wrote.

The U.S. president also included a link to an article in the brief post which claimed the Parti Québécois’ victory was a “blow to Mark Carney.”

This week Trump said the trade war with Canada could end “pretty soon” and that Canada was “willing to give us anything at this moment.”

In contrast, Carney told a news conference Monday that any progress is because “the U.S. is coming closer to our position.”
