The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has ordered the recall of lemon and chili roasted peanuts sold under the PK brand and distributed in Quebec and Ontario.
The recall, first ordered on Thursday, asks consumers to throw away this product or return it to the place where it was purchased.
The CFIA reminds us that food contaminated with Salmonella bacteria may not show any visible signs of spoilage or have a suspicious odor, but can still make a person sick.
She adds that young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems can contract serious and sometimes fatal infections. For healthy individuals, “salmonellosis can manifest with short-term symptoms, such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.”
No cases of illness associated with the consumption of this product have been reported, the agency said.
