An incident involving a diver and a great white shark reportedly occurred during a diving activity in Percé, in the Gaspé, on Wednesday morning.
“The care measures were triggered immediately. The person involved received first aid on the spot before being quickly transported to a hospital for further evaluation. We will keep you informed if new developments warrant it,” said Plongée Percé on its Facebook page early this afternoon.
The scuba diving center thanked “all the teams who participated in the intervention for their speed and professionalism,” adding that, “out of respect for the privacy of the person concerned, no additional details will be communicated.”
As a precautionary measure, all Percé diving activities have been suspended for the rest of the season.
According to the most recent data from the Canadian Shark Attack Registry, only 15 incidents have been confirmed in Canada out of the 30 attacks reported in the last 330 years.
