Highway 40 eastbound closures planned in Montreal this weekend

Drivers heading east on Highway 40 in Montreal and Montreal East should expect closures and delays this weekend as crews continue pavement repairs.

The Quebec Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility says the highway will be completely closed overnight between exit 85, serving Bourget Boulevard, Marien Avenue and St-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard, and the entrance from Tricentenaire Boulevard.

The closures are scheduled for Friday from 10:30 p.m. to Saturday at 8 a.m., Saturday from 10:30 p.m. to Sunday at 9 a.m., and Sunday from 10 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.

Traffic will be detoured onto the service road. The ramp from Broadway Avenue to Highway 40 eastbound will also be closed from Friday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

During the day Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., one eastbound lane will remain open between the same points.

Drivers can use the remaining highway lane or Metropolitan Boulevard, the service road, which has at least two lanes to accommodate traffic.

The ministry warns that congestion is expected and recommends checking Québec 511 before travelling.

The work could be postponed, extended or cancelled due to weather or operational constraints.

The repair project includes concrete slab repairs, the installation of new prefabricated slabs and joint repairs. Work is expected to continue until the end of summer 2028, with interruptions during the winter.
