Isaac del Toro won the 15th edition of the Montreal Cycling Grand Prix in style on Sunday, beating Frenchman Paul Seixas in the sprint.
Del Toro, who became the youngest winner in the history of the race, thus enabled the UAE Emirates – XRG team to continue its domination of the Montreal edition with a fifth consecutive title.
His American teammate, Brandon McNulty, who had triumphed at the foot of Mount Royal in 2025, completed the podium.
“Brandon and Adam (Yates) were so strong, I’m happy to have won for them. The team worked so hard for me today,” Del Toro said after the race.
American Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek), third last year, and Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe), winner in Quebec on Friday, took fourth and fifth places respectively.
Del Toro and Seixas (Decathlon CMA CGM) broke away on the 16th and final climb of Camillien-Houde. They worked together until the end, where Del Toro left no chance for Seixas, surprising him in the sprint.
Michael Woods, 39, was the top Canadian, finishing 18th. His compatriot Derek Gee-West (Lidl-Trek) was involved in a collision with four other riders about 40 km from the finish on St-Urbain. He subsequently abandoned the race.
Canadian champion Jérôme Gauthier stayed in the day’s breakaway for over 80 kilometers before dropping back to the peloton on the eighth ascent of Camillien-Houde. He abandoned the race a few minutes later.
Quebec’s Pier-André Côté (NSN) dropped out before the 15th climb, while his teammate Guillaume Boivin gave up after only two laps.
The UCI Road World Championships will take place in Montreal from September 20 to 27.
