Three people, including a child, were killed in a head-on collision Friday afternoon in the Laurentians.
Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. following the crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Boulevard Rolland-Cloutier and Chemin du Lac Dufresne in the municipality of Lantier, in the Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides area.
According to the Sûreté du Québec, a northbound vehicle allegedly attempted to pass on the left to avoid a vehicle that was turning right in front of it. Police say it then collided head-on with a southbound vehicle.
The three people killed were the occupants of the southbound vehicle that was struck. Police said they were two adults and one child.
The driver of the northbound vehicle that attempted the pass was also injured, but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The road remains closed near Chemin de la Montagne Noire, with a detour in place managed by Quebec’s Transport Ministry.
A collision reconstruction specialist from the Sûreté du Québec was expected to examine the scene as investigators work to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash.
