Man in critical condition after trying to stop brawl in Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension

A 50-year-old man was seriously injured after he was attacked while trying to stop a fight in Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension on Thursday morning.

Montreal police (SPVM) say that around 1:35 a.m., officers were called to Pie-IX Boulevard and 44th Street following reports of an unconscious man.

The victim and another man tried to stop the brawl. The victim was then struck several times.

Police said a fight broke out among several people. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, but his life is no longer in danger, officials confirm.

The suspects reportedly fled on foot before police arrived.

No arrests have been made.

Officials say a perimeter has been set up at the scene. Investigators will attend the location to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, interview witnesses and check surveillance cameras.

The investigation is ongoing.
