Montreal man pleads guilty to fatally stabbing pregnant wife in 2024

A man who stabbed his pregnant wife to death in their apartment in Montreal’s Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough in 2024 pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Tuesday.

At the courthouse in Montreal, Mustapha Khalil Mechken, 45, admitted to killing 32-year-old Narjess Ben Yedder, who was 10 weeks pregnant with their first child at the time. He faces a life sentence without parole.

The incident dates to January 2024 when Mechken reportedly stabbed Yedder 50 times. He later called 911 to report the crime.

Yedder was pronounced dead on the scene after paramedics attempted to resuscitate her.

Mechken was arrested charged with second-degree murder. He remained in custody.

Sentencing proceedings are scheduled for next week, with Ben Yedder’s family slated to speak in court.
