Pedestrian was fatally hit by a pickup truck in Malartic

A pedestrian in her 60s died after being hit by a pickup truck in Malartic, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reported on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision, on Royale Street, around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

“The collision occurred while the pedestrian was crossing Royale Street and was hit by the pickup truck which was entering the same street southbound,” explained Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the SQ.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at a hospital in the region.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital for treatment of nervous shock.
