The body of a man in his 20s who drowned Sunday afternoon in Lake of Two Mountains, in Oka National Park was recovered early Monday.
SQ spokeswoman Kim Cormier said the victim was rescued by divers around 1:30 a.m. and transported to the hospital, where his death was confirmed.
Emergency services were reportedly called shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday to assist a person in distress on Lake of Two Mountains. According to SQ spokesperson Geneviève Bruneau, the victim and a woman had decided to go swimming in the lake and had “drifted into a deeper section and found themselves in distress.”
“The woman tried to help her friend, but she was unable to do so,” explains Geneviève Bruneau. “She was rescued by two people who were passing by in a boat; the man, meanwhile, apparently sank in the water and did not resurface.”
She specifies that the event allegedly occurred in sector A of the nudist section of Oka beach, i.e. in an unsupervised swimming area.
“Searches are currently underway on the body of water,” adds Bruneau. “There are divers who will be able to go to the site tomorrow to continue the search.”
The woman who was with the victim was reportedly taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.
