PQ requests recount in Montreal South Shore riding lost to Liberals by 10 votes

The Parti Québécois has filed a request for a judicial recount in Vachon, the party has confirmed to CityNews.

Quebec Liberal Party candidate Affine Lwalalika defeated the PQ’s Stephan Fogaing by 10 votes in the Montreal South Shore riding, according to preliminary results on the Élections Québec website.

Lwalalika received 10,063 votes (27.52 per cent of all valid ballots cast), while Fogaing received 10,053 votes (27.50 per cent).

According to Quebec’s election authority, an application for a judicial recount can be filed with the Court of Québec – within four days of the election – if the second-place candidate lost by one-thousandth of the votes cast.

Vachon was previously held by former CAQ Deputy Premier Ian Lafrenière, who finished in third place this election with 7,614 votes.
