Quebec earthquake preparedness drill set for Thursday morning

Montrealers are being encouraged to take part in Quebec’s annual earthquake preparedness drill Thursday morning.

The Great ShakeOut is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 15 and will take place across Quebec.

The City of Montreal is urging residents to practise three recommended steps during the simulation: drop to the ground, take cover and hold on until the shaking stops.

The actions are designed to reduce the risk of injury during an earthquake.

Montreal is located in a seismic zone, making earthquake preparedness an important part of emergency planning, the city says.

Held annually on the third Thursday of October, the Great ShakeOut aims to raise awareness about earthquake risks and encourage residents, schools, businesses and organizations to review and update their emergency plans and supply kits.

The city says being prepared can help protect people and those around them in the event of a disaster.
