A routine end-of-the-week lottery purchase turned into a $5-million windfall for a Chaudière-Appalaches man.
Alexandre Patoine, a resident of the region, won the top prize on a 5 million$ extrême scratch ticket recently purchased at DépaMax Sainte-Marie.
Patoine, who regularly picks up a few lottery tickets at the end of his workweek, scratched the ticket at the convenience store. He was stunned when number 37 in the final game revealed the $5-million top prize.
He immediately had the ticket validated at the store to make sure the win was real.
He quickly shared the news with his partner and family, who were thrilled by the unexpected fortune.
Despite the life-changing payout, Patoine says he has no plans to stop working anytime soon. Instead, he plans to use some of his winnings to spoil the people closest to him.
The retailer that sold the winning ticket will also receive a $50,000 commission, equivalent to 1 per cent of the prize.
The win comes as Loto-Québec continues to report significant lottery payouts across the province. The corporation says it awarded a record $1.9 billion in prizes last year and crowned 111 millionaires in Québec.
