SPVM officer from Station 39 reassigned to administrative duties for reportedly deleting evidence

A police officer from Station 39 was reassigned to administrative duties after being suspected of malfeasance and obstruction of justice.

The SPVM says it’s in connection with an incident involving domestic violence that occurred in 2025.

According to Radio-Canada, the officer allegedly destroyed video evidence stored on the phone of a victim of domestic violence.

“The individual under investigation has been reassigned to administrative duties with no public contact for the duration of the investigation,” the SPVM wrote in a news release on Thursday.

The police force says the allegation came to light during the investigation into Station 39 in Montreal North, which was disbanded last summer due to allegations of racist behaviour and actions. Authorities say the report “originated from within the organization.”

Montreal police also say an officer from Station 21, in downtown Montreal, has been suspended “for several weeks” now following an investigation into potential discriminatory and racist acts linked to the allegations against Station 39.

Police say information that led to that suspension was obtained during the course of investigative work being carried out at Station 21. The station has been at the centre of its own firestorm this month amid allegations that a police officer urinated on a homeless person.

“We are in communication with the DPCP (Quebec’s Crown prosecutor’s office) to determine the next steps.”

In Montreal North, a 16-member patrol unit was disbanded in June following allegations that officers kept the hair of racialized citizens as trophies.

Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher is scheduled to hold a press conference Friday at 1 p.m.
