Up to 30 bus routes could be rerouted as Montreal prepares to host the eight-day UCI Road World Championships.
The STM says it has been preparing for the event for more than thee months, working with the City of Montreal, police and event organizers to plan for the road closures and disruptions.
Alexandre Fernandez, chief bus dispatcher at the STM, says the length of the event presents a different challenge than the weekend events the transit agency typically prepares for.
“We’re used to events in the weekend, this time it’s eight days,” he said. “We’re going to have to adjust depending on the days.”
The STM says its operations centre will monitor the transit network throughout the week-plus competition and respond to unexpected issues, including accidents and roadblocks.
The UCI Road World Championships run for eight days in Montreal, bringing widespread road closures to parts of the city.
For transit users, the STM recommends checking its dedicated event webpage and scanning QR codes posted around affected areas for updated information.
The agency is also advising riders to leave extra time for their trips and consider combining bus and metro service where possible.
